October is a lucky month with two birthstones, Tourmaline and Opal.
The word tourmaline comes from Sinhalese word turmali, which means “mixed”. Tourmalines exist in more colors and color combinations than any other gemstone in the world. The name opal derives from the Greek Opallos, meaning “to see a change (of color).” Opals range in color from milky white to black with flashes of yellow, orange, green, red, and blue. In the middle Ages, the opal was considered a stone that could provide great luck because it was believed to possess all the virtues of each gemstone whose colors were represented in its color spectrum.
